Kunstenaar Al Saralis  woont en werkt in Hampshire ( Verenigd Koninkrijk) en schildert, zoals hij zegt, niet de realiteit maar datgene wat hij waarneemt en door wil geven daarvan.

Zijn onderwerp komt altijd tot stand in samenwerking met de modellen waarmee hij werkt. De modellen zijn bekend voor hem en weten wat hij met zijn schilderijen wil laten zien. In zijn kleurrijke portretten en figuur schilderijen kijken  de modellen ja ‘graag’ aan. De kijker maakt contact met de modellen en zodoende ook met de kunstenaar. Immers de modellen kijken de kunstenaar tijdens het poseren aan.

Tijdens de zomerexpositie ‘Summer Breeze’ tonen we een serie schilderijen die de kunstenaar het afgelopen half jaar voor de expositie heeft gemaakt.

For this ‘ Summer Breeze ‘ show I chose to explore more fully the visual aspects of sun and shade which is a strong element of my imagery, compositionally.

Strong light and dark pools of shadows.

Nature and its changes are a consideration in my work. We all are aware of climate change and it’s threat. This is an underlying element within my paintings. Much of the work has elements of changes in nature .

The ‘breeze’ is a metaphor for the changes that we are experiencing in our climate.

I use photographs as a source but am not interested in photographic realism . I love the ‘frozen’ moment of a photo and I try to elongate that moment. I like the contradiction of this. I often use the colour of rust within the work . Rust colour relates to time passing .

I regard myself as a figurative artist but not a painter of realism as such. The type of realism I try to achieve is of an expressive and emotive realism. The figures within the paintings have an introspection which is also something I like to explore .

I like my work to be regarded as a mixture of contemporary and classical.
